The New Concord/John Glenn Alumni Endowed Scholarship
At the 50th Reunion of the N.C.H.S. Class of 1957 in August 2007, classmates agreed to start an endowed college scholarship fund to assist outstanding graduates of John Glenn High School.
The announcement was made at the 2007 alumni reunion with the first contributions by the Class of ’57, the Class of ’54 and many individuals. The fund is administered by the East Muskingum Student Endowment Fund, a non-profit trust established in 1983 by East Muskingum Local Schools. Your contribution is tax deductible, and the goal is to raise $100,000.
The N.C.H.S. Board decided in 2012 to begin giving a $1,000 scholarship, even if some of the money came out of the principal. With the 2013 scholarship going to Grant Slack, grandson of Jim Wells, Loreita Cubbison Slack and son of Jay and Kim Wells Slack, our balance still grew by $4,500. The current balance in our fund is $21,971. Now that the N.C.H.S. and J.G.H.S. Alumni have combined, we hope to give two $1,000 awards. One must be a Legacy Scholarship (a descendant of a J.G.H.S. or N.C.H.S. graduate), while any J.G.H.S. senior is eligible to apply for the other.
Our alumni contacts for the Alumni Endowed Scholarship are: Sean Hill (740-255-6711), Roger Bates (740-826-4264), Don McKendry (740-872-3719), and Jean Ann Allen (740-826-7655).
Now that we are awarding two scholarships, we hope (and need) your continuing support for this wonderful effort to show current J.G.H.S. students that their predecessors are still proud of our school.
