Larry W. Miller Legacy

The Larry W. Miller Intermediate School was named after longtime East Muskingum superintendent Larry Miller in recognition of his distinguished service to public education spanning over five decades. The East Muskingum Board of Education officially dedicated the school in a ceremony on June 1, 2003.

A 1953 graduate of New Concord High School, Mr. Miller served East Muskingum Schools as a teacher, coach, and administrator prior to ascending to the role of superintendent, a position he held from 1968 - 1986.  He then served as the Muskingum County Superintendent of Schools for 10 years.  A leader in a state-wide effort to reform public education in Ohio, Mr. Miller worked to ensure a fair and equitable opportunity for education for every student in the state.

Mr. Miller was a strong educational leader who valued the importance of a rigorous academic curriculum as well as the personal growth fostered by student participation in athletics and the arts. He is a member of the East Muskingum Schools Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame and the East Muskingum Athletic Hall of Fame in addition to having the intermediate building named in his honor. Widely recognized as one of the founders of the East Muskingum Schools, Larry W. Miller left a legacy of devotion to the whole child which continues to enrich the lives of our students today.
